Do you have a Termite problem in your commercial or residential property?
Termites are winged insects that eat non-stop. They shed their wings after finding a good place to nest. Like bees, they have their own colonies. Termites are heavy destroyers of wood, flooring and wallpaper without anyone noticing until matters get worse. There are many different species of termites in the world such as Dampwood termites, Drywood termites, Formosan termites and Subterranean termites.
Dampwood termites are very large in size with a brownish color. They don’t have workers in their colonies; all the young termites do all the work. These termites feed on dampwood as the name suggest. You will not find dampwood termites in buildings, but you can find them in homes that have damp wood through leaking plumbing; buildings don’t have enough wet wood.
Drywood termites which are light brown in color, have colonies of up to 2500 members and their younger ones are the ones that do all the work. They feed on dry wood, wallpaper, plastics and fabric made from plants. They dwell in nests built in tunnels that they built in buildings. These tunnels cause a lot of damage and can cause the building to become weak, lean and eventually fall down.
Formosan termites which are yellowish brown in color, are the largest and most destructive kind of termites. They have colonies with over ten thousand members. Unlike the other termites mentioned, their colonies have 3 groups; workers, soldiers and reproductive. They live in mud nests inside the walls of buildings. They feed on wood, and dead trees, making space for new plant life. They also cause damage to buildings and houses.
Subterranean termites which are creamy brown in color, have colonies of about 2 million members. Their colonies are also divided into three groups; the workers, soldiers, and reproductive. These are also one of the most destructive kind of termites as they eat lots of wood, destroying building foundations, wooden support beams, plastic plumbing pipes, and filtration systems. They even destroy living trees and shrubs. They prefer to dwell in wet places aboveground.
You can prevent having termites in your vicinities in the first place by several ways. You can make sure that any damp or damaged wood on the outside of your house are replaced because that is what attracts them. You can see to it that water drains away from your house.
